Considering the track record of the assembly to date (failed sports stadium , catastrophic handling of education, flat-earth environment stances) it’s easy to believe Northern Ireland politicians are living in a fantasyland when they say they are doing a good job.
And now it seems US network HBO plans to bring real fantasy here with the filming of the pilot for 'A Game of Thrones' – a fantasy drama based on a book series by George R.R. Martin.
HBO acquired the TV adaptation rights to Martin's "Songs of Ice and Fire" book series nearly two years ago and the pilot is described as an exploration of "an epic struggle for power set in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom." Hmm sounds just like home.
Notably First Minister Peter Robinson highlighted HBO’s track record of producing excellent programmes saying: “HBO has an enviable reputation for offering very high quality, original programming, receiving critical acclaim for its productions including Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers and of course The Sopranos.”
…“and of course The Sopranos?!” Must be a personal favourite of the First Minister, which makes sense considering it deals with managing gangsters and keeping family members employed in your business.
